I was invited back, along with my buddy @dj_john_workman, to talk about my career, and collaborate on a painting with the kids. I talked about how incredibly important it is to follow your passions & failing forward. I took volunteers from the crowd to come up & draw ✍️ using one of my 4 “anchors of success” 1)Dream - without limits 2)Try - before you’re ready 3)Fall - to lose is to learn 4)Rise - with no regrets. Of course as always, my Papa, one of my biggest supporters, made it into my talk - where I shared a great core memory. Next Monday I’ll be back at Camp White Pine along with my buddy @dj_john_workman speaking about my career & doing some collaborative live drawing with 300+ Grade 7-12’s. This is from a few years back & it was SO much fun! ? See ya soon kids! ? Repost ? Yesterday I got to hang out with 400+ Durham Integrated Arts Campers (@diac_DDSB & @ddsbschools) @campwhitepineofficial! ??️These incredible kids brought the heat for 90 minutes, as I spoke about my career & what I call the “4 Anchors” ⚓️ 4 thoughts, actions, behaviours that have helped guide me in work & life. “Love…Madly”, “To Lose Is To Learn”, “Quiet The Voices”, “No Regrets (…and don’t forget the fun ?). I invited 4 volunteers from the group to help me create a live canvas centered around these anchors & their own experiences, goals & dreams. Very special thanks to the faculty & students who made the evening so special. And of course to my friend @dj_john_workman who provided the ? drawing beats. Today, feeling inspired & grateful. Always looking for more opportunities such as these, to speak on my experiences, successes & failures. My oldest son Sam & I have literally grown up together. He came along when I was 21 & in art school. I was “the guy with the kid” to my teachers and my peers ? but @samwilky1998 was & still is the best thing that’s ever happened (my other 3 kids are ok too ? - love you guys ❤️) - I had no idea what it meant to be a man until he came along & now he’s grown into this tall, amazing, kind, caring, man of his own. I’m so incredibly proud of you Sammy. Welcome @reinpunkpotatoaf182 into the family officially! 10 years in the making & now you’re locked in ?- love you both. Hard to believe this was 5 years ago! ? I remember it was one of the first community initiatives coming out of Covid, & reconnecting with other artists I hadn’t seen in a while, was SO what I needed! ❤️ Working alone 99% of the time, this is something I’m super conscious of. Being around like minded people & investing in community & something beyond yourself, gives us creatives purpose beyond our own day-to-day selfish endeavours ? PS this was such a cool spring project! Going through old pictures, and came across this guy! I actually remember this pretty well. These were formative years for me, as my son Sam was born the summer in between my prep year in Art Fundamentals (Art Fundies ?) & my first year of the illustration program, which was & still is one of the best in the country, with the bar set very high from the get go. I worked a few jobs, pulled multiple all nighters, skipped EVERY school pub night ?, went to school & was a VERY young Dad (although thought I had it all figured out ?). I remember sneaking past the the office in our building because I was always behind in rent ? It was a super challenging time, and I’ve been through a few of those since, but you have no idea what you’re capable of until you’re tested, and tested some more. I firmly believe everyone should experience a good beat down from life now and again. You learn, you mature, & you gain this profound perspective & resiliency. Plus nothing will humble you like life saying “you thought you had this? Think again” Moral of the story: Don’t let snot drip on your art assignments + work harder then you thought possible. In 2024 I was approached by Paramount Worldwide (which, at first I thought was some kind of horrible prank) to create a piece celebrating (@tmnt ) The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 40th anniversary. An artist from select countries were chosen, and I made the cut to represent Canada! WHAT!? The folks from Paramount were amazing & gave me full creative freedom to draw the guys however I wanted - of course fighting over pizza seemed like the natural creative direction. ? As an 80’s kid, I was literally raised on Ninja Turtles so working from nostalgia + injecting my own style = a piece I’m super proud of. Vibrant, fun, and true to the TMNT brand. Last I heard paramount had some organizational changes, and production of the art on merch has been delayed. But hoping soon you’ll be able to find my work on stuff all over the ? Get after it kids! Amica is the “Four seasons “ of retirement residences, with premium facilities all across Canada. ?? They specialize in top notch culinary experiences for their residents, along with numerous engaging activities + unique one-on-one care, making the lifestyle transition absolutely seamless. The theme of the event was “Power of Possibility” and from intently listening to the group over 3 days, the level of service they provide is incredible. I worked closely with Amica’s senior leadership & marketing teams for several weeks prior to the event, in order to create a mockup for the live painting, that illustrated elegance, precision, & met brand guidelines. The finished art will hang at their head office + each GM will receive a high quality print of the work. Massive thanks to Sumeet & team + the crazy cool Sheraton staff. This city has so much ❤️ & so much talent! ?? - beauty ? by another talent @jordanlyallphotography #repost ? What an amazing evening! I had a fantastic time photographing the 2026 edition of Peterborough’s Got Talent, hosted at Showplace Performance Centre in support of @prhc_foundation , spearheaded by Patti Clancy. 14 incredible performers (plus a bonus performance at intermission from last year’s winner!) The judges had an impossible task in choosing winners, but @sarah.evans23 , @artofwilkins , @dgups and guest David Goyette all did an wonderful job giving feedback and cheering the performers on. And, of course, NO ONE hosts an event like @_thetiffanyshow. Keeping the energy positive and the crowd engaged like the pro she is! A beautiful message from client @jen_188 who commissioned a pair of custom dance pants for her daughter. I’ve been doing this a while now, and the most special moments for me are ones like these. Big projects are great, don’t get me wrong, but nothing beats the ripple effect of small community projects & inspiring young artists along the way. Families were absolute champs waiting over an hour in line to have their #caricature drawn. As a Thankyou, each person also received a limited edition print from me ?. Super pumped be heading out to @sheratonfallsview in a few weeks for a three day live painting project for @amicaseniorlifestyles! This reminded me of an amazing live painting job last year @evergreen_brick_works for the @champagne.tacos fundraiser that’s is held every three years to support a local charity organization. $160k was raised to support Care As One, Canada’s first residential respite centre for dementia care. This year’s theme is “Power of Love” - Musical tribute to the 80s in support of the Assertive Outreach Suicide Prevention Program at the @cmhahkpr. Over $29,000 has been raised so far over, not including what’s coming in at this year’s sold out performance at @market_hall_pac Feb 19. Today I got to do one of my favourite things. I was out at Station Place Retirement Residence in Havelock, hanging out with the residents, drawing portraits & having amazing conversations. I love hearing life stories & seeing the smiles. I met a very young 105 year old firecracker, and asked what her secret was to a long & happy life. Digging through old work to pull examples for a client. This was a big mural project for @supermindstherapy Kids Autism Therapy Centre. The school was a new build & venture for a really cool couple, passionate about bringing the best experience to kids with autism. The mural process involved research into choosing the best colour palette, designs & composition for kids entering the space. I learn so much with each project I’m involved in & with a similar “Superminds” job on the horizon , I’m really excited to dive back in! ❤️ #mural #artoftheday #artistsoninstagram #autismacceptance #illustration
